 Committed To Our Youth Members

As a club, we are very proud of our youth members and our long established passion to promote and sustain amateur dramatics for all age groups. Many that joined the club as young as 5 upwards have gone on to achieve great success in a variety of performance & backstage roles within theatre, film and television. Whilst some have departed Carnoustie in order to follow their path in the industry within larger cities, others have returned to their home roots and promptly re-ignited involvement with their beloved club- and what a warm welcome back is received!

CTC provide an opportunity for our youths to audition for productions throughout the year; we aim to choose productions that involve differing levels of ability from chorus to walk on roles, to minor speaking and major lead parts. This allows each member to develop and gain confidence at their own pace and most of all to have fun!

If you are not entirely sold on the idea of becoming a member with a view to performing onstage, you should know that we also encourage youth members to experience backstage roles in sound, lighting, stage management, prompting and prop construction. We currently have many younger members who actively step forward frequently to assist and help with club 'business' as and when it is required....it is definately not just about being visually seen on stage all of the time!

You might like the idea of putting yourself forward to be elected as one of our Youth Representatives, or you could even win our Youth Achievement Award- read below about our longstanding youth members Harry, Ethan, Sarah and Cerys.

Could you be our next new youth member?

Youth Achievement Award 2016-2017

Winners Harry Cheape & Ethan Doherty

This dynamic duo has supported the club for 10 years now, on & off stage. Their close friendship has added a real sense of fun and camaraderie to the youth segment of the club, a really good example of what we wish all of our members to experience when they join us. 2017 is the last year both of them would be considered as 'youths' so we felt it was the right time to show our appreciation by awarding them both with the trophy. Congratulations to you!

What would they like to share about being a member...

Harry "I joined Carnoustie Theatre Club a decade ago as both of my parents were members of the club. As a kid, I loved watching every type of production they were in and so this got me really keen to step onto the stage myself. After years of being a member of the club I'm still loving every bit of it. I say this because it doesn't feel like work at all but instead feels like a really fun hobby that provides a great social space for youths to interact with one another.

Ever since I joined the club I've been mainly acting on stage in both major lead roles and smaller ones in productions for the SCDA youth festival and our annual CTC pantomime (most recently Sleeping Beauty). However, I have started to focus in on different backstage production roles such as lighting and sound other than just acting. That is why I think it's great to get involved with the club as they offer you many different opportunities and not just acting. If you feel uncomfortable doing one thing then you could do another, the Carnoustie Theatre Club has it all."

Sarah" When I joined the theatre club years ago, I was so shy! I never expected that almost 9 years later I would be almost a completely different person. The club helped me to realise a love and a passion that I have for performing. I absolutely adore doing panto and the SCDA festival, participating in the plays has given me opportunity to travel to places like Orkney to perform."

Cerys" I’ve been part of Carnoustie Theatre Club for several years now and I can honestly say that it has shaped me into the person I am today. I have met many life long friends through CTC; it feels like one big 2nd family who is always welcoming to our newest members. I can’t imagine my life without them and the great memories that have been created  with everyone."

Youth Reps 2016-2017

Sarah Oliphant & Cerys Fitzgerald
Sarah " The best thing about the theatre club was that it gave me the opportunity 9 years ago to meet my bestfriend, Cerys. We have worked together as the CTC Youth Reps for a few years but have now moved into new roles as choreographers for the panto. The members of the club are now my second family and I know I can count on them if I ever have a problem. This is also something I carried out for younger members than me when I was a rep, offering a helping hand at all times if there was any concern from them.I can’t imagine my life without having the theatre club, I have made lifelong friends and memories I will never forget."

Cerys " When I was old enough I became a Youth Rep along with my best friend Sarah, who I met through CTC, and it has been a fantastic journey! I have seen many young members grow and become more confident in themselves. Being a Youth Rep can be hard work at times but overall it is worth it. You gain the trust of many young members who know that if they ever have a problem they can always talk to us and we will be sure to sort it out."

Katey McLeish & Hollie MacIntosh

Congratulations to these young ladies who were elected as our Youth Representatives for the coming year! We would like to extend a very warm and big THANKYOU to Cerys and Sarah as our previous Reps for 2016-2017 who continue to support the club in many other ways with huge enthusiasm, teamwork, friendship and of course, bags of talent!

Now its time for Hollie & Katey to roll up their sleeves for the club- best of luck ladies!
