Duckham, Stephen

Overhearing conversations in the supermarket suprisingly provide playwright Stephen Duckham with some of his greatest pieces of work. That, along with keeping a notepad next to his bed, are just two of the ways he collects his ideas for his next pantomime or musical production.
Mr Duckham, who road tests all of his work at Kenilworth's Talisman Theatre before releasing it across the country.

In his 30-year career Mr Duckham has directed more than 20 musicals at the Kenilworth theatre and has directed more than 130 musicals with numerous companies across the UK and America.
He explained that he was always destined for a career in the theatre.
He said: "My mother was involved in theatre when I was young and I got involved in local operatic societies and I did a lot at school. I can never remember a time when I wasn't involved in theatre. I always found it magical and I have been doing it ever since.

And, after writing countless jokes and sketches within his pantomime, Mr Duckham says the inspiration for new gags come from the most unlkikely places.
He added: "I can hear people talking in the supermarkets and a funny line will come along - it's amazing where the jokes come from. There is also a host of traditional pantomime jokes."
